Q: Who runs No Ordinary Films?

A: No Ordinary Films was founded by Daiga Cheung in 2016. Daiga is a professional wedding videographer based in Nottingham who also films destination weddings across Europe and beyond.

Q: How long have you been filming weddings?

A: Since 2016, No Ordinary Films has filmed weddings for hundreds of couples in the UK and internationally.

Where are you based and which areas do you cover?

I am a wedding videographer based in Nottingham, and I film weddings right across the East Midlands, including Nottingham, Derby and the surrounding counties. Most of my couples are within about a two hour drive, which covers the whole region comfortably. I am always happy to travel further afield too, with a small overnight rate added for venues beyond that range, and I film a handful of destination weddings each year.

Do you film destination weddings?

Yes, I do. Alongside UK weddings I film a few destination weddings each year, most often in Italy, Greece and Spain. I love the change of pace and light that comes with a wedding abroad. Who will film my wedding?

I will. No Ordinary Films is just me, Daiga. When you book, you get me on the day, every time, with no risk of a substitute or second-stringer turning up. The only addition is when you book a joint package, where my husband Martin joins me as your photographer.

What makes No Ordinary Films different from other wedding videographers?

Three things, really. First, every film is genuinely yours, built around your relationship and the real moments of your day rather than a template. Second, the way I use sound. Layering sound is at the heart of what makes my films feel alive, and it is something very few wedding videographers do. Alongside the formal moments like your vows and speeches, I capture the chatter during the morning preparations, the congratulations, the cheering, the clapping and laughter, and the natural ambience of the day. Sound is one of the strongest triggers of memory, so a film built this way takes you straight back, and I weave it together with the visual storytelling techniques that carry the story alongside it. Third, I offer joint photography and videography with my husband Martin, which means your photo and video team already know each other inside out. My focus is on craft and storytelling rather than competing on price.

Style and approach

What style of wedding films do you create?

Natural, documentary-style films with a true-to-life look and a good dose of fun. I tell the story of your day through real sound, voiceover, your vows and the unscripted moments, edited with pace so it never drags. Expect beautiful, natural-light compositions, a bit of humour, and a film that actually feels like your day rather than a polished advert. I steer well clear of cheesy slow motion and over-staged, perfect-looking footage.

Will you direct us on the day?

Hardly at all. For most of the day I stay quietly in the background and let things unfold, so you can be fully present with your people. The one time I will gently guide you is during your couple portraits, where a little direction helps you look and feel your best. Everything else is just you, your guests and your day as it really happened.

Do you use a drone for wedding films?

Yes, where it is permitted and where it adds something to the film. Drone footage is lovely for setting the scene at a venue, but I only fly when the location and conditions allow it, and I never let it take over the story. If aerial shots matter to you, mention it when you enquire and I will check whether your venue allows them.

How do you make us feel comfortable on camera?

I work with small, discreet cameras and keep a low profile, so most couples quickly forget I am there. There is no posing, no staged set-ups and no awkward performing for the camera. I also take real care to film the bride in a flattering, natural way. The more relaxed you are, the better the film, and a relaxed day is exactly what I am there to capture.

What kind of couples do you work best with?

My couples tend to be people who care more about the feeling of their day than about everything looking flawless. They value their friends and family, they like to party, and they want a film that captures the real vibe of the day, mess and laughter included. If you are after picture-perfect, every-hair-in-place footage, I am probably not your person, and that is fine. I would always rather be the right fit than just another option.

How much does a wedding videographer cost with No Ordinary Films?

My packages start from £1,800. I do not work from a fixed price list, because every wedding has its own shape, so the final figure depends on how much of the day you would like covered, which films you want, and whether you add a joint photography and videography package with Martin. What is included in your wedding videography packages?

Every package is built around your wedding film: I edit the footage from your day into a highlights film, with the option of additional or longer films depending on the package you choose. I do not work from a fixed price list, because every wedding is different, so the exact contents are shaped around what you would like covered. Content creation can be added as an optional extra, and I also offer joint photography and videography with my husband Martin. The best next step is a quick chat about what you have in mind.

Do you offer wedding photography as well as videography?

I personally focus on videography and content creation, but I also offer joint photography and videography packages with my husband Martin, an experienced wedding photographer (you can see his work at martincheung.com). We work as a husband-and-wife team who know exactly how the other moves through a day, so your photos and film feel connected and nothing gets missed. Many couples tell me that booking us together took a real weight off their planning.

What is content creation and can I add it to my package?

Content creation is short, social-style clips filmed on a phone throughout your day and delivered to you within 48 hours, long before your full film is ready. It is a fun mix of wedding videography and social content, and it means you have something to relive and share almost straight away. It is an optional add-on rather than part of every package, and it has quickly become one of my favourite things to offer, so do ask about it when you enquire.

What is the difference between a content creator and a videographer?

A content creator and a videographer both film your day, but the results are quite different. Content creation is quick, social-style footage shot on a phone and delivered within a day or two, made for sharing online while the memories are fresh. Videography is the crafted, cinematic film of your wedding, shot on professional cameras with proper audio and carefully edited over several weeks into a story you will treasure for years. I offer both, and many couples add content creation alongside their film so they have something to enjoy straight away and a beautiful keepsake later.

How does booking and payment work?

To secure your date I take a booking fee, with the final balance due a month before the wedding. Once you have enquired I will talk you through the exact figures and timings for your package, and I am happy to discuss a payment schedule that works for you. Dates book up well in advance, so it is worth getting in touch as early as you can.

Booking and planning

How far in advance should I book a wedding videographer?

As early as you comfortably can. I take bookings anywhere from a few years ahead right up to a month or so before the wedding, but popular dates, especially summer Saturdays, tend to go first. If your date is set, it is worth enquiring now even if the rest of your planning is still up in the air. If your wedding is soon, do still ask, as I may well have space.

Do we meet before the wedding?

Yes. Before your day we will usually have a pre-wedding chat, by phone or in person, to talk through your timings, your plans and anything that matters to you. It helps me understand the shape of your day and the moments you really do not want missed, and it means we already know each other a little by the time the wedding comes around.

Do you have experience filming at our venue?

Quite possibly. I film at venues right across the East Midlands and I am a recommended supplier at Hazel Gap, Grangefields, Norwood Park, Thorpe Garden and Pumping House in Ollerton, and I also film regularly at Swancar Farm House. Even if I have not worked at your venue before, I always research and plan ahead, and some of my favourite films have come from venues that were new to me.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, I am fully insured. If your venue needs to see my insurance documents for their records, just ask them to contact me directly and I will happily send everything over.

What happens if you are ill or cannot make it?

It has never happened, but I plan for it all the same. I am part of a wider network of trusted professional videographers, so in the very unlikely event that I could not attend, I would do everything possible to arrange experienced cover and make sure your day is still filmed. Your footage would then be edited by me in my usual style.

On the wedding day

How long do you stay on the wedding day?

That depends on your package and the moments you want captured. Many couples have me from the morning preparations through to the first dance and a little beyond, so the story has a proper beginning, middle and end. When you enquire, tell me your rough timings and we will work out the coverage that suits your day.

Will you need feeding on the wedding day?

It is appreciated but never expected. A wedding is expensive enough already, so I would never insist. If you would like to include a supplier meal I am grateful for it, and a main course or supplier plate is plenty, with no need for a full wedding breakfast. If a meal is not provided, I will simply slip away briefly during the meal to grab something, which is usually a quiet moment anyway.

Do you work alongside our photographer?

Always, and happily. I am used to sharing a day with photographers of all styles, and I make a point of working as a team so that neither of us gets in the other’s shots. If you book a joint package, your photographer is my husband Martin, which makes that teamwork completely seamless.

What equipment do you use, and is it discreet?

I film with small, professional cameras chosen to be as unobtrusive as possible, so I can move quietly and capture moments as they really happen. I also record proper audio so your vows, speeches and the natural sound of the day come through clearly, and I use a drone for aerial shots where venues allow it.

Do you record the speeches and vows?

Yes. I record clean audio of your ceremony and speeches, and good sound is a huge part of what makes a film feel real. Your finished highlights film weaves the best of that audio through the story. If you would like a longer edit of the full speeches or ceremony, mention it when you enquire and I will let you know how to add it.

After the wedding and your film

How long does it take to receive our wedding film?

Your full wedding film is usually ready within six to eight weeks of your wedding date. It can vary a little depending on how many weddings I have that month, so I will always tell you the current lead time and keep you posted on progress. If you have added content creation, you will also have those clips within 48 hours of the day, so there is something to enjoy straight away.

How long will our wedding film be?

It depends on the package you choose. I offer several options, from a short highlights film of around four to five minutes, to a longer film of roughly six to eight minutes, through to full-length films that cover the day in more depth. A shorter film often suits a small, simple wedding, while a longer or full-length film works beautifully for a multi-day celebration. I am always happy to talk through which option suits your day best when you enquire.

Will we get the raw or unedited footage?

My packages are built around beautifully edited films rather than raw footage, since the editing is where the story really comes together. If having the longer or unedited footage matters to you, mention it when you enquire and I will explain the options.

How is our wedding film delivered?

Your films are delivered digitally through an online gallery, so you can watch, download and share them easily, including with family and friends abroad. It is a simple link, which makes it lovely and easy to send round to everyone who could not be there on the day.

What music do you use in the films, and is it licensed?

I use properly licensed music in every film, so you can share your film online without worrying about copyright takedowns. I choose tracks that suit the mood and pace of your particular day, and if you have a song that means something to you, do mention it and I will see what is possible within licensing.

What is the difference between a videographer and a cinematographer?

In practice the words are often used interchangeably. A traditional videographer tends to record the day from start to finish from one position, while a cinematographer uses multiple angles and blends sight and sound into a shorter, crafted film. I think of myself as a cinematographer, because my focus is on telling the story of your day creatively rather than simply recording it from beginning to end.
